Will DVD Displayer work with ________ Software Player?
The answer in most cases is YES! Try checking the Configs Page first, to see if someone has already made configurations for your DVD Player. In order to setup a DVD Player to be used with DVD Displayer, go to the "Tools" --> "Options" screen and "add" a software DVD player. The parameters text box allows you to tell the specified DVD player the location of DVD video files. At minimal, you will need to enter in either "%T" or "%L" (most likely with the quotes!).
I get an error when I try to run DVD Displayer, and the program never opens.
The problem is most likely because you do not have the Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework installed. If you're thinking "I already installed the .NET Framework" make sure you have version 2.0 installed, and try downloading the installer.
When I double click on the DVD Cover, or right click a movie and select "More Info" I get an error.
In order for DVD Displayer to display more details about a movie two things must happen. First, the movie must have movie information that was automatically downloaded from the IMDB. Second, the movie information must have been downloaded after release 2.1.0 (October 11, 2006). To get around this for a DVD, simply click the "Edit Info" button, then type in a search term, hit the Enter key, and click the "save info" button.
How do I find / display movie information for a selected DVD?
Simply click the "Edit Info" button in the bottom right corner
of the main form. If this is the
first time DVD Displayer has searched for information for this DVD, DVD
Displayer will automatically
search the IMDB for movie results matching the name of the folder a
movie is contained in. If no
movie results are returned, try changing the "Search Term" text to
something that more
closely matches the movies title, and hitting enter.
You can use the "<" and ">" buttons to navigate between
possible movie matches. If you are unhappy with the cover art
that was located on the IMDB, you can paste in the URL (for example
http://www.google.com/images/moviecover.jpg) or local path (Example:
C:\moviecover.jpg) into the "Cover URL" text box.
Additionally, if you do not like the Movie title, or Plot
description, you can edit them while the selected DVD is in the Edit
Info mode.
DVD Displayer isn't finding any of my DVDs
In DVD Displayer, click "Tools" --> "Options". The section labeled
"DVD Locations" must have the file locations where your DVDs are stored.
Click the "Add" button to add one or many hard drive locations where your
DVDs are kept. Next, be sure to change the "Search Depth" parameter at the
bottom of the screen to something greater than 1, and in many cases as high as 4 or 5.
C:\newDVDs\
C:\newDVDs\back_to_the_future\
C:\newDVDs\walk_the_line\
C:\newDVDs\jurasic_park\video_ts\
C:\newDVDs\Compressed\bone_collector\video_ts\
C:\newDVDs\Burn\harry_potter\video_ts
The "Search Depth" paramater determins how many folders deep DVD Displayer will look to find DVDs.
Take the above directory list for example, where "C:\newDVDs\" is set as a search path in
DVD Displayer. If the "Search Depth" is set to 1, DVD Displayer will only be able to find the
movies "Back to the future" and "Walk the Line", but will not be able to find the movie
"Jurasic Park" because like most DVDs, it's contents are stored within a VIDEO_TS folder. By setting
the "Search Depth" to 2, DVD Displayer will now be able to find "Back to the Future", "Walk
the Line", and "Jurasic Park", but nothing else. In order to find all the movies located under
"C:\newDVDs\" in the example above, DVD Displayer would need to have a search depth of 3 or higher.
The search depth paramater exists in order to prevent DVD Displayer from searching all 300,000 files
on a hard drive in the event that a search path of simply "C:\" is set.
